I have eaten here a few times...

The biggest problem is finding it !!!

You can get a shuttle bus from the main part of the hotel and its a bout 500mtrs

from the main entrance..

I will comment on my last visit there...1st Aug.2008

I arrived on my trusty (sic) Honda Dream and not another bike there !!!

However I was greeted warmly and made our way to an ocean side table..

The waves rock up against the beach below and that is the music...romantic !

Service was Kymer style...standing there while you go through the menu ...Aghhhhh

it puts a little pressure to order a little too quickly for me...

I wanted to look at what fresh fish they had ( each time) and they obliged without fuss..

Going past the kitchens...everything I saw was in good order..

I had a Fish Bisque to start ...deep and full of flavour..$5.00

Also Lobster  3 Tails (300grms ..$12.00) and Saute Potato ($3.00 )...

You can have them cooked whatever way you want..boiled ...fried..grilled

I had mine grilled...smokey flavour..just what wanted and not dry

My partner had a Bean Curd dish with Veggies ( $5.00) ...

The dishes were great ...service can wain...its slow

We had a local water ( $1.50 ) and a bottle of House Chenin Blanc (Californian)..$12.00

I would say if you like your food and can spend a little time waiting for it..

Its a good place...drink comes out quickly Smiley

VAT is at 10% and maybe a tip if you got good service !!

My above meal cost $46.00 including gratuties...

Well worth it if your a foodie...Smiley

Those prices don't seem too bad ..... especially if YOU enjoyed the meal, I know how particular you are!

May have to save up and give it a bash Smiley

I kept the bill ...so accurate  Smiley

I am a little fussy...only because I generally choose simple dishs..that are easy to cook

The secret of any good restaraunt is fresh ingredients

and a little care when cooking them...I am not looking for sauce reductions...

but I am looking for good value

and if I am paying ..I like to get a meal that is cooked at least to my standard of cooking

and hopefully better ...

There is an abundance of fresh ingredients in Snookey

and some good cooks..getting the two of them togather...thats a different story

Quality, Value and Service..I have found the first 2 in Snookey..

Service has been hit and miss in every place I been..Its a Cambo thing

It is a difficult business getting everything right...

I have a lot of respect for people that do get it right..

The old saying..

"You can please some of the people some of the time

you can please all of the people some of the time

But you cant please all of the people all of the time "

Just a little thought on Cambo sevice...

I had a meal alone in Vanns in PP...

I was alone eating but had a shadow helping me pour my wine (1/2 bottle of Chinin Blanc) and water..

after each sip !!!!

This got a bit much so I said I would like to do this myself...the pouring bit

The wine waiter went off...

Main course arrived and waited for 1/2 bottle of Red to follow..

Nothing came ...so did my usual when not getting the desired attention..

went to the bar area...suddenly all hell let loose in a quite way..

I was asked to sit down and the wine would be with me pronto..

It arrived 2 seconds behind me...

The wine waiter then stood about 2 paces behind me for the rest of the meal !!!

either a famine or a feast...service wise

BTW...Vanns is beside the Post Office in Phnom Penh

Fantastic setting in an old pannelled Bank...

The detail in the interior design is wonderful..check out the brass locking mecinasm on the windows

Some very fine paintings...

I had a very simple dinner...pate to start and steak and chips mains..two 1/2 bottles of wine

and a bottle of water...

My bill was $42...

No Problem Casper...

Considering that in my local good restaurant here in Dublin...Mint

Tasting Menu of 5 courses (small ) costs €135 PP with wine (1 glass with each course ) €185 PP

and the Local Gordon Ramseys place charging near the same at € 150 PP...buy your own wine

Phnom Penh has very good value to offer..

I could spend weeks going to the recommened places..

A good meal in PP would cost the same as a starter in Dublin !!!
