OK.

How much do you have to pay a local to work in a bar on average for a month ?? And how many would you need to work in yours ??!!  Wink

The 10 dollar tax you mention is that just a general local tax ??

I take it you pay tax on the amount of turn over of the bar or is that not the case ??

Whats the legality of a foreigner owner a business there ?? Can you get turfed out at any moment by the authorities or is it all legal and above board ??

Sorry for all the questions but interested enough to be searching the net and finding places like this !!

Regards,

Simon.
Hi Simon,

It's completely legal for a foreigner to actually work in his business, unlike Thailand.

Currently there is no tax that is directly linked to turnover. However, bars are generally between 10 and 25 dollars per month and Hotels can be a couple of hundred.

Average staff wage is around 50 dollars per month for bar staff, though some places do pay more.

Hey "Martin",

Yes, I believe I do know you or was it "G"? who opened the "BJ" in Jomtien.

Anyway things are (financially) looking grim here in Thailand, and every day more so with the never ending politics. So wifey and I have also decided to scope things out in Snooky over the next few weeks.

Obviously lot's of homework to do before doing anything. One thing I am seeking is information on internet connections, DSL satellite?,  which is a 101% must have.

Anyone have any information? Would be greatly appreciated.

I work 100% online .... and believe me, it isn't easy here in Sihanoukville. Wifi is 'down' frequently in just about all the hotels / guesthouses and if you have Satellite, it's patchy at best.

Even phone internet connections suffer.

I can only say, from my experience, do not bet on having 100% access to the internet. Sad

Ain't that the truth! Cheesy

I hear that the Corner Bar, which has been for sale with various pricing from 40k to 20k, is about to lose it's lease anyday. In which case it'll be going for nothing.
