Lions edge thru to semi finals.
The Sihanoukville Lions came thru their must win game with a hard fault win against Port Authority this past Sunday. A goal from Jason mid-way thru the first half was enough to pick up the 3 points and finish 2nd in the group only missing out on top spot on goal difference.
The Lions had lost their first game on the sandy Independence pitch to Otres United, they struggled to cope with the size of the pitch and the intense heat of the earlier kick off. This time they were a much more compact team with the Lions coaching staff doing their homework and installing a 5-4-1 formation which out witted their Khmer counterparts. Having now played 2 games winning their 2nd against ENW they had the experience of playing on this pitch which is so much different to their usual home ground of Don Bosco.
The early possession was evenly distributed with both teams earning chances but the keepers came out on top. A series of 3 consecutive corners piled on the pressure and the Khmer defense conceded what would be the only goal of the game, when the ball came over from Kaldys corner Jason volleyed thru a crowd of players and into the net.
The Port team came back at the lions earning free kicks outside the Lions area normally by throwing themselves to the floor. But the Khmer teams free kicks were not of a high enough caliber to score and went well wide or easily picked up by the Lions keeper. The Lions were getting frustrated by the continual diving and niggly fouls the referee seeming to favor the Khmers, so when the half time whistle came the Lions were happy to regroup and get some much needed liquids down.
The second half was a brutal affair with the lions defense putting everything in the way of the ball and the Khmer team. The Khmers became so frustrated that they started to concede silly free kicks and one melee ended with the lions keeper running out from his goal to try and confront the guilty Khmer player he was blocked by most of the players on the pitch and off it. After every one calmed down a red card was issued to the Khmer player and the Lions keeper can thank himself lucky  to only get a yellow.
The Port team did get the ball in the net but it was by way of a hand ball and really the Khmer should have also been sent off for deliberate hand ball.
The referee was fed up with the continual Khmer fouling and ended up blowing the whistle a couple of minutes early. The Lions were over joyed and will now face life University on Saturday 18th March.

Great game guys...i dont how you do it in the heat, specially the first half.

The Khmer guy that was doing all the fouling ( number 16 ) was a real pain in the ass

and should have been sent off well before the time he kneed David in the back...

Congratulations on the win...
