Monday, July 14th, 2008Well the election campaigns are in full swing here in Snooky. I know this as they drive in ‘convoys’ past my window every morning at around 7am …… speakers and ‘megaphones’ at full volume!
Everything seems very well organised, very friendly too with happy smiling faces and plenty of flag flying and waving by the loyal [...]
Speedpool Competition at the Golden Lion Plaza
Sunday, July 6th, 2008Seems that the owners of the bars over at the Golden Lion Plaza are working hard to attract the ‘low season’ crowds. Just this week I’ve attended two great nights at the Plaza.
The latest event was last saturdays ‘Speedpool’ competition. Since moving to Sihanoukville, it’s been hard to avoid the Pool Tables, most bars have [...]
Sihanoukville Crab Racing Association
Sunday, July 6th, 2008The inaugural meeting of the Sihanoukville Crab Racing Association was held last wednesday at the Golden Lion Plaza, specifically Plastic Paddy’s and The Shipwreck Bar.
I was ‘reliably’ informed that many months of training has gone into the preparation of these specially bred Racing Crabs and it was obvious by the dedication of many of the [...]
Cambodian Night @ the Freedom Bar & Hotel
Sunday, June 29th, 2008Live music seems to be the order of the day here in Sihanoukville, with the Freedom Bar and Hotel staging an alternative to their semi-regular Route 66 nights.
Last weeked they had a Sihanoukville based Cambodia band on stage, Red Hair. This made a pleasant change for me as i’m not really a fan of American [...]
X Makeena give a great performance at Pocoloco
Saturday, June 21st, 2008I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I visited the Pocoloco, Sihanoukville, to see X Makeena. The French band who, reportedly, successfully blend ‘Hip Hop’ and ‘Drum and Bass’ music, neither of which are particular favourites of mine. However, I must say that I was ‘blown away’ by their stage act.
Most of the bands [...]
Start of the Rainy Season?
Monday, June 16th, 2008Everyone in town is pretty much facing up to the fact that the Rainy Season has started early this year. After a month or so of ‘changeable’ weather, the rain can now be relied upon to fall just about everyday.
Not that this is a particularly ‘bad thing’, personally the weather being a couple of degress [...]
Photography Club in Sihanoukville?
Sunday, May 4th, 2008I’ve asked around and there doesn’t seem to be a photography club in Sihanoukville. In actual fact, from what I can gather, there doesn’t seem to be one in the whole of Cambodia!
I’m out and about a couple of times each week ’snapping’ around town and I’ve met a couple of other people who are [...]
Road Safety warning
Sunday, April 27th, 2008It is with sadness that I write this, I’ve had news this morning that a friend of mine who I met in Pattaya, Thailand has passed away today after a serious road traffic accident.
Yes, he was probably drunk and yes, he was riding a motorbike … obviously, this is one of the combinations that is [...]
Sihanoukville Online goes Multi-Lingual!
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008Due to the fact that Sihanoukville seems to attract a very mixed selection of nationalities, we’ve decided to provide a translation of the entire Sihanoukville Online website into 12 languages.
Simply click one of the Country Flags from the selection at the top of the right hand column to translate the website.
Sihanoukville is changing
Saturday, April 12th, 2008Yes, Sihanoukville seems to be changing fairly rapidly. In the very short time that I’ve lived here, two of the ‘best’ Sihanoukville beaches have been closed down to make way for the new developments.
There is also the fact that Ochheuteal Beach will be closed at some stage to enable the building of more Beachfront Hotels. [...]
