Working in Cambodia, an alternative.

Work isn’t easy to come by in Cambodia. Yes, there are many bars who are always seeking ‘lively’ western staff, but pay is very low and normally subsidised by free meals, drinks and possibly free accommodation.

That said, it’s not for everyone. So what if you don’t want to work in a bar and you haven’t got the money or inclination to buy your own?

I’ve met a number of people across Cambodia and Thailand that earn their income ‘Online’. This is very easy to set up, but does require a certain amount of time to be spent on the site, keeping it updated and of interest to visitors. However there is money to be made.

There are many affiliate schemes available to match the ‘theme’ of your website, everything from travel insurance, credit cards etc, to Hotel booking and travel accessories. Assuming your website is Travel Related of course.

You could start a website with any ‘theme’ though, all of us have hobbies or interests that could be of interest to others, think about it, then make a few notes.

If you get the ‘focus’ of the site right though, it’s quite possible to earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars each month.

Starting your website shouldn’t cost more than around $100 usd, and it’s pretty safe to say there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get this money back over the next year at the very least. If you get the ‘focus’ of the site right though, it’s quite possible to earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars each month.

More than enough to fund your stay in Cambodia.

Here’s a few links to get you going …..

  1. WordPress – in my opinion the best Blog / Website software available.
  2. StudioPress – themes that work great for layout and ads.
  3. Google Adsense – get yourself an Adsense account and get targeted ads.
  4. UWCS – All in One Website Marketing Tool.
  5. Build a Business not a Blog – the No.1 Free eBook guide to making money online

Success doesn’t come overnight, but using the right tools and with a little effort, you’ll be amazed how easy it can be to make an income online.

Good Luck :)

  1. Making money with Adsense it’s becoming harder and harder. Couple of years ago, Adsense program was really hot

Nowdays, affiliate earnings are much more rewarding. More and more publishers go into CPA networks everyday. Adsense is paying penny per clicks .. Too bad .. I actually enjoyed it while it lasted.

  2. Very true, Adsense certainly isn’t what it used to be …. that said, the money is still waiting to be made, you’re just at the mercy of Google’s ever changing algorithm.

I run a number of sites, two of which have suffered badly over the past 12 months. Typically, they were my two ‘top earners’! One is a finance related site, were it’s not uncommon to see income of $5usd per click, however, for some mysterious reason Google took away the PR5 status over night. Traffic, and revenue effectively died.

After a full redesign, and a couple of months effort, it’s back to a PR2 and slowly gaining Search Engine Position and traffic.

The other site is a medium for worldwide estate agents (realtor’s) to advertise their properties, should a sale complete then I receive a small percentage. Again it’s page rank of 4 was replaced with a big fat, ugly zero. It’s taken nearly 8 months to get this site back to reasonable traffic volume and it still only has a Google PR of 2.

Thing is, Adsense isn’t everything as i’m sure you know, used in conjunction with Affiliate Schemes though, it is certainly of value. Concentrating solely on Adsense however, is a wasted opportunity.

    Thank you for visiting.

  3. Casper wish i was a web master ,as i would love to set up a good site for Khon Kaen,as at the moment the existing web sites are old fashioned and out of date.
I advantage I have is i have lots of time on my hands, would i need a work permit to run a web site in Thailand?

  4. Hi Dr Mick, it would appear that you wouldn’t need a work permit to operate a website for Khon Kaen. The site would probably be hosted outside of Thailand and any income wouldn’t be earned from Thai companies and would probably go straight into your UK bank.

With much of the software available today, all you need is someone to set up the domain, hosting, emails and install the software, you are then left to concentrate on the content. If you have used any of the Microsoft Office type programs, you can update your website.

Let me know if you need the hosting :)

  5. Hey, when I click on UWCS, some WriteAgain comes up….is it same as UWCS? How is it a marketing tool?

  6. Apologies Rohan, seems that the guy has played around with his links and I can’t find the tool he had before.

I’ve set the link to an Ultimate WordPress Comment Submitter, I’ll be honest, I don’t remember this as being the same thing. Yes, it’ll get you lots of backlinks very quickly, but personally I prefer to spend the extra time and do things like this manually.
